The temple is in late Romanesque style from the 12th Century and it was built using stones from an old chapel. In the centre of the chapel’s nave there is a miniature of a ship suspended from the ceiling, a sign of gratitude for the protection offered as an advocate for sailors.
Also in this area are the remains of a medieval fortress from the 10th century. It was built by Bishop Sisnando II of Iria to defend the lands of Santiago from Arab and Norman invaders.
